Privacy policy
Effective October 24, 2026
Magnetday runs on your own devices. Your calendar goes between your devices and Google, and never to us. The only personal data we ever hold is your email address, if you join the waitlist.
Who we are
Magnetday is an independent, open-source family calendar, published at magnetday.com. In this policy, “we” means the Magnetday project. Questions go to hello@magnetday.com.
This policy covers this website, the waitlist, and the Home Assistant edition described below. The Magnetday apps for iPhone, Android and the web are in development; before they launch, this policy will be updated to describe exactly what they access and store.
Google user data Magnetday accesses
When you connect Google Calendar, Magnetday asks for one Google permission: the Google Calendar scope (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar). Google’s consent screen describes it as access to see and edit your calendars. Magnetday uses it only to:
- list your calendars, so you can pick one during setup;
- read, create, edit and delete events on the one calendar you pick;
- save Magnetday’s own details on those events (who an event is for, and its tag) in the event’s private extended properties, so they travel with the event.
Magnetday does not access any other calendar’s events, and no other Google data: not your email, contacts, files, photos or profile beyond what Google needs to sign you in.
How the data is used
Calendar data is used only to show your family’s calendar on your own screens and to keep it in sync with Google. It is not used for advertising, profiling, selling, or training AI or machine-learning models, and no person at Magnetday can read it.
Where it is stored
Each household connects through its own Google OAuth client, created in that household’s own Google Cloud project. Google issues the sign-in token to your Home Assistant, which stores it along with a copy of your events and your Magnetday settings (people, colors and tags), on hardware in your home. Your tablet and phones keep a copy of the current week in their browser storage so the calendar works offline. An e-ink panel fetches a picture of the week from your Home Assistant over your home network.
There is no Magnetday server in this path. We never receive your token, your events or your settings.
Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent or transfer Google user data to anyone. Data moves only between your Home Assistant and Google, to keep your calendar in sync, and between your Home Assistant and your own devices.
Retention and deletion
Magnetday keeps your calendar data on your Home Assistant for as long as the integration is installed. To delete it:
- remove the Magnetday integration in Home Assistant, which deletes the token, the stored events and the settings it saved;
- revoke Magnetday’s access at myaccount.google.com/permissions;
- clear the site data in your tablet’s or phone’s browser to remove the offline copy.
Events you created stay in your Google Calendar until you delete them there.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Magnetday’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address, whether you want to hear about the Magnetday Panel, whether you use Home Assistant and whether you’d test the beta (if the form asks), the page and campaign link you signed up from, and the time you signed up. We don’t store your IP address.
Your email is stored on our server (Cloudflare, in the US) only to tell you when Magnetday is ready. We never sell or share it. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe that deletes it. You can also ask hello@magnetday.com to delete it.
We may later move the list to an email provider to send these emails. If we do, we’ll tell you first.
This website
magnetday.com uses no cookies, advertising or third-party tracking scripts, and loads no third-party fonts or code. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes visitors’ IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
We count page views and button clicks on our own server, with no cookies and nothing that identifies you. We store the page, the day, the country and whether you’re on a phone. We also keep which button was clicked, which version of the page you saw when we’re comparing two, the campaign tag in the link you followed, and the name of the site that sent you, if any. We never store your IP address or your browser’s details. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we count nothing.
Children
Magnetday is made for families, but the website and waitlist are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Future add-ons
If we ever offer an optional add-on that runs on our servers, this policy will be updated first to describe exactly what it processes, and it will never apply to anyone who doesn’t sign up for it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced to the waitlist and in the project’s release notes.
